wednesday, president obama visited some of the area's most devastated by hurricane sandy. as daniel lee reports, people are hanging onto the president's promises their communities will be restored. >> today marks another day toward recovery, but for people evacuated from the jersey shore, it is also another day lost from their home. three days after sandy left the northeast in crisis, finally, science of recovery. >> we are all working together to make sure the new jersey moves ahead. >> police say they are making progress clearing roads left impassible by sand and homes tossed into the street. >> you feel you are going to wake up any minute. it is sickening. >> for evacuees who have not been allowed back to see their homes, the wait is agonizing.

>> what can you do? hopefully everybody can rebuild. >> in hoboken, people are pumping murky floodwater out of garages. in queens, assessing the damages to more than 100 burned out homes. in jersey city, a line for gasoline 100 cars long. in brooklyn, waiting for public transportation. those devastated by sandy moving on but still struggling to assess what has been lost. across the nation, people are stepping up to help. tomorrow, new jersey native bruce springsteen and pancho villa will participate in a benefit concert. -- bon jovi will participate in a benefit concert. >> medical volunteers will help

afternoon. a high temperature today, 54 degrees. the sprinkles begin to break around 6:00 p.m. we drop into the 40's around 9:00 p.m. we will have details coming up in the fall forecast. >> in the meantime, city police investigating two homicides, one in southwest baltimore, the other on the north side. the latest happened at 11:30 p.m. last night. no other details are being released. the other have been in the 5300 block of carriage court around 8:30 a.m. police believe robbery and drugs may have been the motive. with just days to go until election day, both presidential candidates are putting the focus back on campaigning after super storms in the race of the east coast. helen jackson has that story. >> president obama is back on

>> covering the nation, two people in custody and four wounded after a shooting on the campus of the university of southern california. one of the victims was critically wounded. three others suffered non-life threatening injuries. the 100 people at a students only party were shot inside and the campus wide e-mail alert was sent.

gramm spaniard was charged with perjury and obstruction of justice related to the jerry sandusky trial. sandusky was convicted on 45 counts of abuse last june and was recently sentenced to 30-60 years in state prison. thousands of people are waiting in long lines to get on a city bus into manhattan. this is incredible video from brooklyn. it shows thousands of people waiting patiently to get on the bus. these people would normally take the subway, but today, this is their only option. there is a steady stream of buses, but with limited transit service, it is not enough to move quickly. a water main break has shut down the 1800 block -- morgan state

starting to ship south of annapolis. we have some unsettled activity. in the mountains, they're getting a rain and snow makes. as of yet, most of the snow is south of oakland, but they have seen a little accumulation. it is hard to pick out what is left of sandy as we watch this radar live. almost a bit of circulation of here, moving into canada. everything else is basically coming from energy in the upper atmosphere. that is what is helping to bring these showers downwind of the great lakes. we cannot blame our showers on sandy, but other parts of the northeast are able to. temperatures will remain cold. the jet stream has gone all the way down into the gulf states. you can see the shadings of blue. that is the colder air making its way all the way toward

atlanta. our temperatures are going to stay called for the next couple of days. looking at radar for the metro area, martin state airport currently at 50, white marsh 50 as well. 48 in randallstown. you can see the green showing what the radar is picking up in the metro area. the airport reporting rain. light shower striking in from the west will continue to move into western baltimore county for the next hour or so. if you are on the road, you may have to tap the windshield wipers a couple of times. sprinkles from 3:00 p.m.-6:00 p.m. as well. 54 the high this afternoon and then we quickly drop into the 40's by 9:00 p.m.. the overnight temperature is going to be chilly, mid-30's at best with winds from the west at 5 miles per hour.
